Creating Dementia Supportive Communities is seeing everyday moments as opportunities to help people feel safe, valued, and included. Throughout this course, you’ve explored what it means to be more aware, more responsive, and more intentional in how you interact with people living with dementia and their care partners. You’ve learned how communication, environment, and attitude all play a role, and how small, thoughtful actions can make a meaningful difference.

By completing this course, you’ve started to equip yourself with the tools to:

  • Think of dementia in terms of how people respond and react to the world via emotions, memory, knowledge, logic and context.
  • Communicate more effectively by meeting people where they are.
  • Notice barriers in spaces make them more inclusive.
  • Reflect on and adapt your own communication style to be more supportive
  • Build trusting relationships that support Dementia Supportive Communities
  • Share what you’ve learned and work with others to amplify impact

Thank you for taking the time to engage with this learning. Your willingness to reflect, build new skills, and consider different perspectives is an important part of creating lasting change.

Your impact doesn’t end with this course. Each conversation you start, each small adjustment you make, and each person you invite into the movement helps strengthen Dementia Supportive Communities. Together, these everyday actions create spaces where people living with dementia can continue to participate, contribute, and belong.

We invite you to keep learning, keep listening, and keep being part of this work, because Dementia Supportive Communities grow when people like you stay engaged. As a Champion of Dementia Supportive Communities, you will help Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories to support people living with dementia and their care partners, reduce stigma through awareness and understanding, help connect people to supports earlier and more easily.

Thank you for being part of this work and for helping amplify its impact.
